Here are the best places to find clothes for shorter guys, including brands that specialize in short men’s clothing.
Looking for clothes that fit and flatter the shorter build? You’re in the right place!
Clothes for Shorter Guys
What is this page? First, let me tell you what it’s not:
This is not a list of clothing brands that sort of work for shorter guys, or that happen to carry a few items that work for shorter gents.
Instead, the brands listed on this page specialize in clothing for men who are below average height.
Some of them have actual brick and mortar stores, some operate online, and some do both.
This list is regularly kept up to date, but if you happen to know of any brands that I missed, please let me know in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

- $$$$ = Most items over $100
Let’s look at each brand in a bit more detail…
Ash & Erie
Founded in 2015 out of Detroit, MI and popularized after appearing on Shark Tank, Ash & Erie makes everyday clothes for shorter guys.
I’ve tried almost everything Ash & Erie makes. You can read my full Ash & Erie review right here to see how it looks on me.
The bottom line is, Ash & Erie is a great place to buy casual tops (button downs, t-shirts, polos) and bottoms (jeans, chinos) that fit well on shorter men.
Under 510
Founded in 2018 out of New York City, Under 510 makes modern, affordable clothes for shorter guys.
Significantly more affordable than much of the competition, Under 510’s prices and aesthetic is geared toward a slightly younger customer.
Under 510 is an excellent brand for shorter guys who are on a tighter budget. You can read my full Under 510 review right here.
Bantam Clothing
Founded in 202, Bantam Clothing is the only UK-based brand on this list.
Currently, they only make jeans and t-shirts, but they’re working on expanding their collection to include a wider variety of casual tops and bottoms for shorter guys.
I haven’t had a chance to review Bantam Clothing yet. When I do get my hands on some samples, I’ll update this page.
Feel free to subscribe to the TMM newsletter to make sure you don’t miss these updates.
Jimmy Au’s
Founded in Southern California way back in 1975, Jimmy Au’s is a brick and mortar clothing store specializing in clothing for shorter men.
Run by father-son duo, Jimmy and Alan, this shop has served many Hollywood celebrities over the years.
I had the chance to visit Jimmy Au’s a while back, and it’s a pretty amazing experience. If you’re in SoCal, make time to swing by and say hi to Jimmy!
ASKET
ASKET makes minimalist, high quality clothing staples for men, and they offer shorter length versions of all of their shirts and outerwear.
This means that you can order a Medium/Short or a Small/Regular t-shirt, for example.
Like Everlane, ASKET also prioritizes ethical business practices and radical transparency. So it’s a brand you can feel good about supporting.
Read my full ASKET review right here.
Buck Mason
Right now, Buck Mason only offers shorter length tees. They don’t make button ups or outerwear for short guys.
But, since t-shirts are such an important staple in a man’s closet, I wanted to include Buck Mason on this list.
Also, Buck Mason makes high quality clothing, and I’m a big fan of their fabrics and color selection.
Their XS/Short t-shirts fit me perfectly. I prefer the straight hem, but they’re available with curved hems too.
Questions about Shorter Men Clothing
Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions about shorter guy clothing:
Do they make petite men’s clothing?
Yes, there are a handful of apparel brands that make petite men’s clothing, such as Ash & Erie and Under 510.
Can short men wear baggy clothes?
Short men can wear whatever kind of clothes they like. But, if your goal is to enhance your physique, fitted clothing will look better than baggy clothing.
What shirts should short guys wear?
Shorter men can wear any style of shirt. The key is to make sure your shirts aren’t too long. This means untucked shirts shouldn’t go past mid-fly, and your sleeves shouldn’t go past your wrist bone.
Where do short guys buy pants?
Shorter guys can buy pants from the shorter guy clothing brands listed on this page; most of them make pants with inseams down to 25 inches.
Or, shorter guys can buy pants from any menswear brand and get them hemmed at the tailor. You can also buy custom (or made-to-measure) pants online.

Where is there a store in Los Angles that sell clothes for the short hearty guy
Ryan Hallstrom says
Sorry for the late response, but check out Jimmy Au’s. Their stuff is pricy, but they’ll definitely be able to help you. https://www.themodestman.com/jimmy-aus-visit/
Chris says
My brother needs a suit as soon as possible. He lives near Johnstown PA. He would prefer a black suit.
He is 5’8” 365 pounds
60 “ waist. 59 “ shoulders
Inseam around 25
Legs are thinner.
I didn’t get his neck or sleeve measurements.
Can you give us some direction, please?
I will give you his email and Name
Ryan Hallstrom says
Hi Chris! I wish your brother luck getting a suit. I’d highly recommend getting a navy or grey suit instead of black (these colors are more versatile). With his measurements, you’re going to struggle to find something that fits off of the rack. That means you’ll need to spend a bit more and get a suit custom-made. I’d recommend Suit Supply. While there are online custom suit services, he’ll get the best results from visiting a shop to get measured in person. Custom will take at least a couple of weeks. If he really needs a suit as soon as possible, check thrift stores for a suit that fits him in the shoulders and get it tailored (try to ask for a “rush” order). Here’s a quick guide to how a suit should fit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mnceg6R1JMQ&t=2s
I hope that helps!

2 other sources for shorter gents
nimble made

Brock McGoff says
Thanks! But last I heard, Hugh & Crye was no longer in business. Also, their shirts didn’t work for me at all. Niimble Made focuses on slim fitting shirts, not shorter length.
Lori says
Stumbled upon your blog while searching for gifts for my husband. Thanks for all the great sources! I’ve also been trying to find good quality flannel pajamas for him, he’s 5’5.. any suggestions? Thank you!
Mama Love says
Where can teenagers buy very budget-friendly clothes. My nephews are 5/5 and 5/5 1/2. Thank You. Love yur style and blogs. Thank You. Thank YOU.
Ryan Hallstrom says
I’d recommend Uniqlo, JCrew, and Levi’s. Uniqlo sells short-length tops that are great. JCrew is a bit more pricy but has quality items generally. Levi’s aren’t just good for jeans of all cuts and sizes, they also sell tops — I like their flannel shirts for instance.
However, thrift stores are going to be your best bet, especially if they’re still growing. Depending on where you live, thrift stores might have everything they need, but you might have to search for a while to find what you’re looking for. Also, sites like eBay can be a great source of inexpensive clothing (though it can be a hassle to return items if they don’t fit).
It might sound crazy but, even for teens, taking clothes to a tailor to have them shortened or brought in (or out) can be a life-changing experience. By helping to show them this “secret” early in life, you’ll potentially give them an upper hand on future job interviews, in their dating life, and etc (this is especially true if they remain on the shorter side). Here’s an article we published a while back about how to find a good tailor in your area (https://www.themodestman.com/how-to-find-a-tailor/). I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!

I was looking for a store that had clothes for short men I found one in Florida close to Clearwater up 275 but now I can’t find it again it was on this web page can you help me find it again thanks
Brock McGoff says
I don’t think we ever mentioned a store located in Florida. Do you remember the name?
G12 says
Any idea if any of these brands are made in the USA?
Brock says
They are not.
Philip says
Hi, I’m 5′ 6.5″ weigh 159 and usually wear a medium regular fit. I’m looking for some flannel shirts and best shirt length for me is probably 24″ or 25″ (max). All Untuckit shirts are 26″ and Under 510 are 27.5″ (for a medium). Any suggestions?
Thanks, Phil
Brock says
Have you tried Ash & Erie? https://www.themodestman.com/ash-and-erie-review/
Ryan Hallstrom says
Hi Phill, I’d recommend trying out Levi’s flannel shirts. My guess is that you’d be a size medium, but you may have to get the shirt hemmed by a tailor.
Jennifer Renee Eichelberger says
I think it’s ridiculous that we are calling 5’10 short. Why can’t measurement not exceed 5’6 maybe start at 5 feet. But it’s ludacris that a petite men’s store is claiming the name for their store at 5’10
Liv says
they cater to men who are between 5’2″ and 5’9″. 5’10” is the average height for an american man, so yeah anything under that IS considered short for a man.
Sandy says
Hello! My son is 5’6” and I’m looking to purchase a robe for him. Any thoughts on where I could find a robe for shorter men? Thanks in advance.

I’ve had very good results with Abercrombie and Fitch’s Medium Henleys (link here: https://www.abercrombie.com/shop/us/p/short-sleeve-icon-henley-42827819) being 5’5(ish)/122ibs. This one specifically fits me very well and looks good.

For nice quality t shirts, casual dress shirts, and formal dress shirts specifically made with short men in mind is Nimble Made, I got a shirt for my husband and it fits him fabulously but it is kind of $$$ at around $65 for a casual dress shirt
Matt says
I agree 5’7 should not be in this conversation..

I just ‘stumbled’ across your website and, am I glad I did so!
Being 1.68cms tall and around 79kgs it’s been challenging buying proper fitting clothes… Well, till now anyway!
Hopefully, this will all change.
I’ve just purchased the ‘Modest Man Style Book’ and am looking forward to taking a look through it.
Thank you for your efforts in looking out for the ‘shorter’ people.
I’m currently based in the Middle East but my home is in Ireland 🇮🇪.
I clicked on the link you have for the UK based ‘Bantman Clothing’ but found it very disappointing indeed.
The stores in the US 🇺🇸 are way ahead on both selection and quality.
Thank you once again for all the information on your website.

Being a short guy i buy clothes from Peter Manning. I just buy few pieces of clothing and i have to pay 98 tax + 54 duty + shipping. Unreasonable
James Ballard says
My seemingly endless search for shorts that fit my 5’6 frame has finally come to an end. I bought Peter Manning’s 5 inch inseam shorts, however, they were too tight for my ice hockey player thighs. So my search continued…until I found a New Zealand brand; Rodd & Gunn. They make 7 inch inseam shorts known as the Southburn Sports Fit shorts.
They’re baggy enough that my tree trunk thighs fit well and they come in a ‘Yarn-dyed micro texture fabric’. 98% cotton and 2% elastane and a length that is an inch or so above my knee. Very nice shorts for Summer.
I see in the US there are a couple of stores that stock Rodd & Gunn; Rodd & Gunn Westfield Century City in LA and Rothmans in NYC.

Hi Brock,
Just found you while shopping for socks for my 5’3″ hubby- oh sock shopping is REALLY fun for short guys with smaller feet.
Anyway, don’t know if anyone here has mentioned it, but Untuckit has dress shirts that are actually a great length for short guys. My hubby does NOT look good in tucked-in shirts- he needs his torso lengthened, not shortened, so he look fabulous in Untuckit shirts. They’ve got some solid colors, and decently small patterns as well. They’re expensive- $79 on sale, and higher at regular price, but they’re totally worth it. Just throwing it out there!
Started following you on IG as well.
Happy Holidays!

I’m 5′ 1″ with a 32″ waist and 23″ leg. My problem is there is nothing short than 25″ in pants. I can get them shortened, but the rise is too long. In my younger, thinner days, I could buy youths sizes, but not anymore. I’m retired, so I mostly wear jeans. I’m desperate to find a decent fitting pair of jeans or casual pants Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Byan says
I’m 5′ 4 1/2″ tall, 120 lbs and 50 yo. I have a ton of JCrew slim fit small shirts that fit very well. JCrew also carries XS slim in many shirt selections. The slim fit cut shortens the sleeves.
JCrew jeans and chinos in the 484 slim fit and the skinny fit well. I wear a 29×30. Their 30 length is shorter than other brands. You have to purchase these online. Most JCrew stores don’t carry the 29 waist in inventory.
Their Ludlow suits and tuxedos come in slim fit and I can were 36S jacket off the rack. They do carry all the way down to a 34S in some styles.
I also love the Grayers brand if you are willing to spend a bit more. They carry many styles in an XS. Their XS outerwear and sweaters fit me well.
I have met a number of short guys over my life but have never met that wear a very small shoe size. I wear a size 6 mens. Very difficult to find quality shoes. It not as bad now as it was pre internet, but still a challenge. Any thoughts?
Brock says
Thanks for the tips! Re: shoes, check out this article – https://www.themodestman.com/shoes-for-small-feet/

Where on earth has shirts (casual, dress, even a long sleeved tshirt) for guys with short arms? Measured from the center of the back I’m 29″. Even Peter Manning and other specialty places don’t seem to go that small. I’m 5’3″ for reference.
Robert Allen says
I’m 5’3″ 165 pounds. Thanks for the list. I find it near impossible to find clothes that fit. I’m kinda afraid that if I buy clothes that are not the right fit and have them tailored they won’t look right when I wear them. Does anyone know any brick and mortar stores in Ohio specifically for shorter men? Also does anyone know any other youtubers other than Brock at The Modest Man whose style is specifically for the shorter man?

I would highly recommended saks fifth and off saks; in the boys section. I was able to get True Religion and Polo at 502 and 143 lbs. Perfect fit and greats prices. Plus they deliver to your door?
Echusen Ryoma says
Hello. I’m 5’2 and 110lbs. What online store would you recommend with international shipping. I’m from the Philippines and there are local brands here but the quality is really bad.
Franz says
American Eagle is my go to place for polo shirts and pants (mostly khakis/chinos). Right length and fits well. I am 5’2″ and with a waistline of 36 (38 a year ago). It is very hard to find shirts and pants with other stores like Uniqlo and Gap with my size; either regular fit is baggy and too long and their slim fit is too tight for me.
Jules says
What is the name of the custom shop that sends a tailor out to do a fitting etc…?
Joey DeCarlo says
Anyone know where Silas Jackson shirts might still be for sale? Even used. Looks like they’ve gone out of business. That’s a hug shame, because their XS slim fit shirts fit me freaking perfectly.
I’ve found the Ash & Erie shirts and Peter Manning button down shirts to be a little wide at the waist and narrow in the shoulders. Not really tapered. Any thoughts, my fellow modest men?
Neil says
I am about 5’2″ and roughly 115 pounds; incredibly small (well, that’s because I’m trans, but whatever). Target and a lot of other big box stores don’t carry XS, and even then the sleeves are too long. I do sew my own clothes, but I wanted to find some reasonably priced button-up dress shirts and ties that didn’t need making or altering that also fit my style. I found the article very reassuring and helpful, and wondered if there were any other suggestions. Also looking for small size/boys’ shops in the Austin area specializing in formal wear.
Eden says
Hey, also a trans guy here! 5’0″ and about 105 lbs. Every item of clothing I’ve gotten that’s both a reasonable price and not embarrassing fit, I’ve gotten from the Target boy’s section (I know men’s doesn’t have XS but well…if you’re not self conscious about heading to the kid’s section then it might work out….Usually a 12 or 14 will do me as far as their dress shirt sizing) or H&M pretty much. I know at least for a while, H&M carried smaller pants sizes. I know a lot of other guys who have luck at H&M as well. You might also checkout Doubleju. I’ve gotten XS shirts from that brand before that are pretty good. Also in general, Asian brands carry decent looking clothes in smaller sizes so that’s worth googling.
Ronan says
Trans here also, barely 5′, but weigh 130 pounds, so boys’ is out of the question. When I had to wear ties, I just got regular length, adjusted them so that the front part was the correct length, and tucked the back part into my shirt.
richard says
I am 5’4″, 120lbs, and I have two issues: 1. I can’t seem to find neckties. Men’s are too long and there isn’t much selection in Boy’s, which are sometimes too short. 2. I have bought jeans in the Boy’s department, but I sometimes forget to check to make sure they have full size pockets. Any budget friendly suggestions would be appreciated.
Oday Saleh says
I am 5’4″ and biggest struggle is finding jacket. I live in Germany among giant men, where even teens are taller than me. Can anyone recommend a good brand for Jackets for all seasons?
Alex says
did you find anything by now ? :/ still struggling

Plenty of options – https://www.themodestman.com/tag/short-mens-fashion/
Dparker says
Short swimwear is brutal to find also unless you are willing to drop $200 +. However it is super easy to find in Europe so stock up when you are there. For example, Quicksilver boardshorts are a style I like. State-side the inseams available start around 10″ (thats calf length for me!). However, in most European countries the same company also sells the exact same style and fabrics in 5″ and 6″ inseams, which is a perfect length for me.
Gary Friedman says
Nordstrom shorts with 7″ inseam. In Scottsdale Az and perhaps online.
Gary Friedman says
Nordstrom sell pants with a 7″ inseam.

Do you mean shorts?
Herminio A. says
I’m 5’3″ 145 and use dress shirts for work every day. Once the Classix dress shirt with 32 inch sleeves with neck sizes (16.5 for me) were discontinued, I looked everywhere for replacements. My time cant be wasted. Rather than spend the excessive time to find a shirt with the same proportions and save a couple bucks, I went to an online custom shirt store that has a tailor that travels around the country. He measures, you go through the fabric swatches, and the shirt maker is in Hong Kong. Quality workmanship in the fabric/patterns/build details of your choice were well worth the $85-95 per shirt (they also have multi-shirt specials). They do jackets, suits, etc. as well. Now I’ve begun to notice if someone has tailored clothes. It’s the combination of fit, fabric, and details that make the difference. Anyone with smaller proportions knows what an effort it is to find something only to have to settle on less than what you want. This way you don’t compromise.
Barbra says
Which online custom shirt store please? My husband tried one and it didn’t work out even though he sent measurements taken from from a professional tailor here.
Mark says
Barbara, I’m 5’3″, 145 lbs. I tried MTaylor for custom shirts and a suit. They have an app you download and it takes your measurements using your phone. I was surprisingly pleased with both the fit and the finish. Modest prices. Your husband should give it a try.
Neil Korgaokar says
I’m 5’5″, 145. I went another route and found a good, reasonably priced, seamstress. That’s really the best option. I buy most of my clothes from Banana Republic on sale, and then have them altered. Many of these places that offer clothes for shorter men either have a very limited selection, or they’re high priced. I do find the 38 S, slim fit blazers fit me well at BR, but all of the shirt arm lengths are too long. If you’re wider, small sizes and slim fit won’t work. There’s nothing like having clothes that fit you well, not only for comfort, but it just looks a hundred times better.
Judy says
My husband is 5’3 and 125lbs it’s so hard to find clothes that fits him, MEXX had a good fitting but they closed 2yrs ago, now we’re stuck with Gstar and their $$$ we sometimes find shirts at the gap and banana republic but very rare. The problem is always the length of the sleeves even it’s slim fit it’s still long. I was able to convince him to get jeans at American eagle they fit him very well. We live in montreal and jackets are a must during winter its so hard to find one with a good fit we’re going to the states soon and will check jcrew but from what i see online their also $$$ I wish there will be an affordable Canadian brand.
Richard says
The Gap has xs shirts and sweaters. Was gonna mention Brown’s in Toronto but Robbie brown beat me to it.
robbie brown says
Hi All! I’m Robbie Brown and have what I think is the best shop for short men in Canada. Check us out at robbiebrown.ca and stop by next time you’re in Toronto, I would love to meet you. Join Brock in following us on instagram #robbiebrown.ca
Hats off to The Modest Man for giving us a forum for conversation.
Dean says
Thank you for this list! At 5’4, 137 pounds with an athletic build, it is almost impossible to find clothes that fit me well. For chain stores I have the most luck at Express as well. Sometimes their slim fit shirts will still be too long and bunch up weird, but it is better than most places where I might as well be wearing a giant garbage bag with their “small” shirts. Occasionally I will find a slim fit in JCpennys, that fits me ok, usually by JFferrar.
Lance Farrell says
Very hard when you are short and muscular. Jeans are the hardest when you have to buy a waist 4″ larger in order to get your legs to fit. This weekend I was talking forever in a dressing room trying to peel off pants that were stuck at my calves. I am in Canada if anyone has any online stores to suggest that will ship to Toronto area. There is Browns (shortmanbrowns.com) but their is not a lot of items for casual or for example you can only pickup sports shirt at the physical store. It is great for business wear.
Tina says
Try fitjeans! Expensive but meant for men with thicc thighs and in short lengths too
Sue Bump says
Short husband: 5′ 5″; 42 inch waist, 28 inch length for slacks, which I can find and alter. However, he needs size 20 inch neck because of a growth there, but only 34 inch sleeves. Absolutely is chubby in chest, but doesn’t need the Large and Tall shirts. Is professor, needs some reasonably priced shirts, long and short sleeved.
Janet says
Anyone know where to find pajama sets for short men?
Jay Selberg says
Very few short sleeve shirts from this group. Some polos and tee-shirts, but I am looking for some casual short sleeve button up shirts, camp shirts, shirts that can be worn untucked. Everyone sells long sleeves. I don’t wear long sleeves in the summer and am looking for some nice shirts The ones I buy in stores I have to pay to have hemmed.
Jim Duffy says
Amen,I’m in S Florida, growing shorter with age and my untucked shirts are looking like dresses. I have a closet full of great shirts that my wife says look ridiculous but I refuse to tuck and belt.
Jonathan says
Thaku’s Mens Wear. They’re selection is diverse and stylish. Just spreading awareness…
Art says
My biggest challenge at 5’4″ and 165 is pants and jeans, who makes a 32 waist and 28 inseam. When you buy a longer pant and tailor it down the legs look like stove pipes, short stumpy stove pipes
LordAwesome says
You should check Zara man they have smaller sizes and fit very well. Also, very stylish!

None of you sound to short to me. My husband is 5’1. We have a terrible time finding slacks or any kind of pant. Do you know?
Andrew says
I am 5’2″ / 127lbs and have had pretty good luck with getting pants / jeans at the Gap (online). There are so many options (ex: slim, regular, tailored, etc…) so I will go into the store and try them on to figure out the right fit for waist, rise and cut. Then I go online and order them in my length since they normally do not have them in the store.
Corbin says
I’m 5’3″, I understand the pants struggle.
Olanlee Andrews says
5’3 seems like im caught between size’s
David says
Although the style at American Eagle is typically a bit too young for me, they have great fitting jeans, khakis, and shorts all at very reasonable prices. Im 5’6″ with an athletic build and I find the slim straight jeans fit very good. They have a couple of dark washes that you can wear to the office.
Also, I find that Brooks Brothers dress shirts in the slim or extra slim fit pretty well. They’re pricey but the quality is great and they are most definitely non-iron.
Definitely Pac-Sun for your next bathing suit. Super modern fits in that store nowadays.
mpimpinella says
My concern is where to fing shirts the right length for a man 5’7″….. Id like it to be a reasonable price also….
Gillyan Harrison (GillyJuan) says
If you have a smaller waist, I’d recommend going to the boys section. Not only are they a bit shorter, but they’re cheaper too. Old Navy is pretty good since their sizes go up to size 18 which is about a 32-34 inch waist. Another option I’d say would be to shop online. Often online says what size of inseam the shorts are. Either that or you could get your shorts hemmed shorter or even ask someone to see you a pair so they fit you perfectly. I sew my own shorts sometimes and it works for me. I hope these tips helped.
Matthew Fries says
I’m 5’7″ and have been very happy with both Peter Manning and Ash and Erie. Length has been perfect. Nice quality. PM is maybe higher quality fabrics, but I do like the variety of patterns/colors at A&E. For dress shirts I’ve also gone made to measure with Proper Cloth and ShirtsMyWay. All good options. Not CHEAP, but totally worth it to get a few good items that fit well IMO.
drew says
Ross is a great place to stop by maybe once a month, I usually find a gem or two each time I go.
Brock says
Nice. Yeah, I stop by Nordstrom Rack every now and then. Usually good for a couple of tees, sometimes outerwear or even shoes.
matt says
Great list! I would add “Express” to this list, especially for a good selection of conservative dress apparel.
Michael Sterling says
Yes! Express has sizes “in store” that run down to XS. It’s my favorite Brand and I recommend it to everyone! Especially my short friends at church who have no style! : /
