Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, is tipped by bookmakers to depart the embattled club prior to the start of the next season. On Monday, the English Premier League imposed an unprecedented 115 charges against City for financial misconduct. The club has been accused of “financial doping” during its decade of EPL dominance, and betting sites believe this might be too much for the Spanish tactician.
City has yet to be convicted of any wrongdoings, as this will be determined by an independent commission. Nevertheless, Guardiola could feel that his accomplishments have been tarnished due to the charges. He is currently 1/2 with Betfair to leave.
The Premier League has charged City for not providing a “true and fair view of [its] financial position,” for deceiving the league on player and coach remuneration, and for not complying with the financial fair play (FFP) regulations. This involves camouflaging funds that came from the club’s owner, Sheik Mansour of Dubai’s royal family, as independent revenue from commercial sponsorship deals. FFPs control how much a club can expend on players in relation to its total earnings.
The accusations are the end result of a four-year probe concerning supposed violations from 2009 to 2018.
