Tacoma Police Apprehend Suspect in Emerald Queen Casino Homicide, Search for Additional Suspect Ongoing

This week, law enforcement officials apprehended the suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred last August at the Emerald Queen Casino’s parking garage in Tacoma, Washington. The gunman, however, is still at large and authorities are reportedly closing in on him.

David Sekou Sebowa Ward, 29, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ty Jenkins, 25. During a Wednesday court appearance, Pierce County Superior Court Commissioner Craig Adams set Ward’s bail at $1.5 million; he remains in custody at the Pierce County jail.

Previous to the shooting, Jenkins and an unnamed individual had entered the casino, left, and Jenkins went into the parking garage. Then, the unidentified suspect emerged from a red Toyota Corolla nearby and fired multiple shots at him, killing him on the second floor of the garage. The gunman then ran to the Toyota, with Ward driving away shortly after midnight.

Although Ward has no known criminal convictions and is not believed to be a gang member, police found a picture of him in social media accounts connected to the suspect. Furthermore, Ward owns a Corolla and the rims on his car are similar to the rims of the car used in the shooting.
