Tragic Shooting at Las Vegas’ Platinum Hotel During Teenage Birthday Celebration

A young person was fatally wounded in a fifth-floor room at the Platinum Hotel & Spa near the Las Vegas Strip on Saturday night, according to authorities. The juvenile victim succumbed shortly after.

The individual, whose identity has yet to be released, was attending a birthday celebration at the hotel. It appears a dispute broke out and a male assailant shot the victim.

The victim was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, but was pronounced dead at the hospital. No other people were injured in the incident.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers received notification of the shooting at around 9:17 p.m. Initial reports indicate that a group of individuals had gathered at the hotel to celebrate someone’s eighteenth birthday, when uninvited guests crashed the party. This led to a commotion that eventually culminated in a shooting.

LVMPD Lieutenant Jason Johansson said, “There was some type of altercation which ultimately resulted in gunfire.” As of Sunday morning, the identity of the victim and shooter were still unknown.

Witnesses only described the shooter as a Black male wearing dark clothing. Metro police closed off the fifth floor of the hotel while officers and detectives investigated the shooting. The inquiry has since been taken over by the LVMPD Homicide Section.

The victim is expected to be given an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. It is also likely that the Clark County coroner’s office will confirm the victim’s identity.

The Platinum Hotel is located on East Flamingo Road, near Koval Lane, with a number of casinos and hotels in the vicinity, including the Las Vegas Strip.

Meanwhile, in Stateline, Nevada, a man was shot in the head and later died following a dispute at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe on Saturday morning. The victim, identified as Omar Reyes Garcia, 32, was taken to a nearby hospital but passed away shortly after.

Garcia and Edgar Julian Delgado, 24, had gotten into an altercation at the casino’s Center Bar. Delgado then allegedly produced a gun and shot Garcia at around 8 a.m. Delgado has been charged with first-degree murder and a second suspect, Savannah Racquel Tautaupale, 26, has been charged with driving under the influence and being an accessory after the fact. Both suspects are currently in custody.
