U2 is anticipated to make their highly-anticipated announcement of a residency at the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas during a Super Bowl commercial on Sunday. This news confirms what had been reported in July 2022: that the renowned Irish rock band will launch the $2.2B entertainment venue located near the Venetian.
The commencement is expected to take place in September with 12 performances, making it a potentially busy weekend in Vegas due to the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix from Nov. 16-18 (of which the Sphere is part of its 3.8-mile street course).
The announcement was preceded by the release of a mysterious image to the media, featuring a Las Vegas skyline with a giant baby’s head illuminated inside the Sphere. Many speculate that the baby is a reference to the group’s seventh studio album, “Achtung! Baby,” which was released in November 1991 and is believed to be the focus of the residency.
It is estimated that U2 will be one of four to six acts to announce their residencies at the 17,500-seat venue, with each performing two shows per weekend over six non-consecutive weekends – a total of 12 shows per artist.
